CVRP Credential Transitioning FAQs

Announcement of New Credentialing Process for all Members
CVRP, CVRP (F), CVRP (D)

The College of Vocational Rehabilitation Professionals (The College) has amended the nomenclature classification from ‘CVP’ to ‘CVRP’, as per our By-Laws and instituted the opportunity to apply Fellowship and Diplomate status.

The mandate of The College is to protect the public by setting and enforcing a code of conduct and guidelines for the Standards of Practice for all Registrants – Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) professionals. As such, The College has determined that the ‘Certified Vocational Professional (CVP)’ will be renamed to the ‘Certified Vocational Rehabilitation Professional (CVRP) to more accurately reflect the primary role of the registrants, as per our By-Laws.

This credentialing system also recognizes the skills development value of professional practice and contribution to the profession as a whole to improve upon best practices, professional competence and broader support to the profession as multiple means of ensuring protection to the public. The new credentialing system supports professional recognition for these efforts as a measure of professional development and contribution for public and stakeholder interpretation.

Certified Vocational Rehabilitation Professional – CVRP

All current CVPs will be renamed as CVRP. New registrants will be required to undertake the same past collegial standards of registration as before. CVRP certified registrants can apply for Fellowship or Diplomate status based on a number of educational, professional development and professional contribution activities. Please see the college website for further detail.

Certified Vocational Rehabilitation Professional (Fellow) – CVRP (F)

This classification will apply immediately to all MCVP registrants and successful applicants. Current CVRP (F) may apply for a CVRP (D) status, if they meet the credentialing standards system of education, professional development and contribution. Please see the college website for further detail.

Certified Vocational Rehabilitation Professional (Diplomate) – CVRP (D)

This classification will stand as the highest standard of professional practice recognition. It requires a CVRP (F) standing and further educational, professional development and professional contribution activities. Please see the college website for further detail.

New Provisional Classification

The College will also provide a new process through application for Provisional certification with documented supervised mentorship, which will enable registrants who currently hold the Certified Vocational Specialist (CVS) or Certified Vocational Advisor (CVA) as well as New Applicants with recognized post-secondary diplomas and/or certificates, to obtain the CVRP. Please see the college website for further detail.

When

The new Classification system has been approved by the Board of Directors of the College and is targeted to be implemented by December 1, 2015. Upon renewal of your registration, a new certificate will be emailed to you in PDF format. In an effort to support professional development as a measure of protection for the public, the College has created a credentialing system supportive of registrants’ contributions to the field of Vocational Rehabilitation.
